I've been bedridden for more than a week, taken down by the same flu that I took my Mom to the hospital for last week. I'm convinced it was the confines of the car ride that did it—Influenza B with an added dose of laryngitis. I'm sitting in front of my laptop now, feeling a little better symptom-wise, but I'm drained of all my energy. I suppose that trying to move when you've been prone for eight days will take some effort, as will finding something to write about when one has barely managed to read a chapter. All things considered, I knew I was going to have to deviate from my
"The universe doesn't match our actions, it matches our vibration."
Over the last couple of days, the above quote has popped into my mind a few times. I've seen it come up on my social media feeds often, but I can't recall the quote being credited to anyone in particular. A quick Google search brought up Abraham Hicks, but there isn't a definitive source for the quote (at least not one that I can find). I don't even know if I'm remembering correctly but it's obviously resonated enough for it to emerge from my subconscious. Anyway, the quote gave me some food for thought, considering my energy levels over the last few days and I wanted to run with it.
Vibrational Energy

I think it's a foregone conclusion that life allows us a bit of grace when we're unwell. Time to rest and focus on getting better without any pressure to do anything else. We're so focused on overcoming how ill we feel to worry about the level of our vibrational energy. For days we're marooned on the island that is our bed - dutifully taking medication and waiting for it all to be over. My question though, is this - why is it so hard to raise that energy when you're otherwise well?
In the context of the above quote, vibration pertains to the energetic frequency at which we function, shaped by our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs. From this viewpoint, the universe continually mirrors back experiences and situations that match our prevailing vibration. The concept highlights that the universe reacts to our internal state, not merely our external actions or desires. According to some sources, if we experience fear, anger, or negativity, we will draw in experiences that align with those emotions, even if our outward actions aim to generate something positive. Much like the law of attraction, essentially, the quote implies that by deliberately nurturing positive thoughts and emotions, we can change our vibration and draw more positive experiences into our lives.
On even the best of days, sometimes my vibrational energy needs a defibrillator. It's easy to feel positive when you're in a good headspace but it can seem like a mammothian task when one is down. When plagued with frequent bouts of anxiety and depression, it equates to a significant amount of time spent in a low vibrational space and before you know it, you're in that spiral going nowhere. That low energy can feel as stifling as the effects of illness on the body and for some people, it can last years. Part of my selfhelp journey is capturing that elusive lightning in the bottle that is my life.
Fostering a Mindset

What I know for certain is that positivity is better than the alternative. Positive energy, commonly connected to optimism and a proactive mindset, is tied to numerous advantages such as enhanced happiness, greater motivation, and even improved physical health. This energy can be nurtured through practices like gratitude, mindfulness, and reframing negative thoughts. In essence, positive energy involves cultivating a mindset that enables you to tackle challenges with resilience and discover opportunities for growth.
Positive energy is not solely about being happy constantly; it's more about maintaining a mindset that is positive, supportive, and advantageous. This usually includes having faith in positive results and showing kindness and generosity to others.
And kindness to oneself. We're often hardest on ourselves, unable to turn the face of compassion on in the mirror. Instead we chastise ourselves when we need kindness most. We can't grow in that environment. We can't thrive.
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I'd taken a pretty drastic personal step, something I wouldn't have considered doing a couple of years ago. I felt it so profoundly that it seemed I wasn't even making an active choice. It almost seemed like the natural course of things. In that moment, I think I was being more kind to myself than I had ever been. Perhaps with change comes new perspectives - new vibrational frequencies - positive ones. I am so here for it.
